Boulder Junction Area Cross Country Skiing and Snowshoeing Trails

Escanaba-Pallette Lakes - Located on State-owned land, this hilly, rolling and Map of Escanaba trailvery scenic trail winds around several lakes and through a variety of timber types. This intermediate trail has a shelter and fire ring provided. (Click on the trail map for a printable map PDF 149KB.)

Length: 4 loops ranging in length from 2, 4, 5.5 and 8.5 miles.
Location: 7 miles south of Boulder Junction on Hwy M at Nebish Rd.

 


Fallison Lake - A beautiful, very hilly trail with spectacular view of Fallison Lake. Booklets on wildlife, flora, and trail history are available from the DNR Trout Map of Fallison Lake trailLake Office & at the trail head from mid-May to mid-September as well as interpretive signage along the trail. Bicycles and pets are NOT allowed on this trail. Cross-country skiing is allowed on these ungroomed trails; however, there are sets of stairs you may need to walk around. Length: Loops of .5, 1.0, 2.0 and 2.5 miles are available.
Location: Across from Crystal Lake campground on Hwy N about 4 miles east of Hwy 51.


Lumberjack Trail - Several wilderness trails that gently wind through many different Map of Lumberjack Lake trail timber types and along the edge of the Manitowish River, the Fishtrap Flowage, and White Sand Lake. The trail surfaces are a mixture of grass and dirt. A portion of the Lumberjack Trail connects with the EscanabaTrail. Pets on leashes are allowed whenthere is no snow. Length: 4.6 and 12.5 mile loops available.
Location: East of Boulder Junction on Hwy K, or on Old Hwy K, east of the town dump.


North Trout Nature Trail - This easy hiking trail meanders around a mature blackspruce-tamarack bog as well as long Trout Lake offering a beautiful view. Map of North Trout Lake trailOpen for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. No bicycles or pets allowed. Great trail for spring wildflower hikes. A Wisconsin State Park sticker is required to park at the North Trout Lake Campground parking area. (Click on the trail map for a printable map PDF 117KB.)

Length: 1 mile loop.
Location: From Boulder Junction continue south on Hwy M approximately 4 miles to a parking area on the west side of the highway.


Tom Roberts Memorial Nature Trail - This handicapped accessible paved nature trail offers interpretive signs as visitors amble through balsam, pine, maple, birch Map of Tom Roberts trail and aspen with beautiful view of Muskellunge Lake. Open for snowshoeing and cross country skiing. No bikes or pets allowed. A State Park vehicle admission sticker is required. (Click on the trail map for a printable map PDF 124KB.)

Length: 1/2 mile loop.
Location: From the intersection of County M & County N south of Boulder Junction, continue east on County N approximately 2 miles to Crystal Lake Campground. The Trail is located near the beach area at the campground.
