Catherine Wolter Wilderness Area - This wilderness area consists of 2,189 acres of northern forest and 15 lakes and ponds. The lakes and surrounding forests provide habitat for many native plants and wildlife including loons, osprey, otters, fishers, bear and timberwolves. The preserve is open to the public from sunrise to sunset for hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, birdwatching, and other low impact recreational activities. Location: From Presque Isle, continue south/east on County B about 3 miles to the intersection with East Bay Road. Turn north on East Bay Road and continue about ½ mile to a parking area next to the locked gate.

Presque Isle "Last Wilderness" - provides marked, self-guided hiking trails winding through a variety of forest stages and past lake views. Restrooms. Length: the inside loop is .8 miles and the outside loop is 1.5 miles.
Location: From Hwy B in Presque Isle, turn east on School Loop Road and the trailhead gate is located behind Presque Isle Community Building. |
