Anvil Lake - Terrain varies from mostly level to hilly and is marked for beginner, intermediate and expert use lets you discover the many opportunities provided within the National Forest. Parking area (sticker is required) is located just east of the Anvil Lake Campground Entrance and south of Hwy 70. Location: From Eagle River, go east on Hwy 70 approximately 8.5 miles, then turn south on Military Rd.

Franklin Lake - Take the time to stroll along the "Avenue of the Giants." Enjoy northern hardwood, pine and hemlock forests with some trees over 400 years old. A short loop at the start of the trail is wheelchair accessible. Parking area (sticker required) is located beyond the Franklin Lake boat landing off FR2181 on the right. Part of the Nicolet National Forest, Franklin Lake Trail is the trailheadl for Hidden Lakes Trail. (Click on the trail map for a printable map PDF 159KB.)

Location: From Eagle River, continue east on Hwy 70 approximately 16 miles to the Franklin Lake Campground area in the Nicolet National Forest.

Mud Minnow Lake - is part of the Vilas County Forest System. (Click on the trail map for a printable map PDF 149KB.)
Length: 2.8 miles.
Location: From Eagle River, continue North on Hwy 45 to Co Hwy G. Take Hwy G west for about 7 miles to Mud Minnow Lake Rd (on the south side of the highway). Watch for signs for Mud Minnow Lake Game Trail.

Nicolet North Trails - These trails offer a favorite spot for cross-country skiers, hikers and mountain bikers. A parking lot (sticker required) is located on the west side of the trail head. Part of the Nicolet National Forest, these trails connect to the Anvil Lake Trail. (Click on the trail map for a printable map PDF 164KB.)
Length: 15 miles (11 K).
Location: From Eagle River, take Hwy 70 east approximately 8.5 miles, turn south on Military Rd. to FR 2181 (Butternut Lake Rd.). Turn east to FR2425 and turn south to parking on west side of road.

Length: 5.1 miles.
Location: From Eagle River, continue north on Hwy 45 approximate 5 miles (or 4 miles south of Conover) to Ski Hill Rd. Turn east on Ski Hill Rd and follow the signs to the parking area.

Snipe Lake & Ewald Lake - is part of the Vilas County Forest System.(Click on the trail map for a printable map PDF 182KB.)

Length: 16.4 miles.
Location: From the intersection of Hwys 17 and 70 west of Eagle River, continue west on Hwy 70 approximately 6 miles to Wilderness Trail. Turn north on Wilderness Trail and continue approximately 1 mile to game trail access OR continue on Wilderness Trail another 2 miles past the Snipe Lake Boat Landing with numerous trail locations on the left.

Three Eagle Trail - Connecting Eagle River and Three Lakes hiking and biking opportunities, the southern trail segment winds through a gentle to level rolling wooded area south of Eagle River, across Mud Creek, past Clearwater Lake, along a wetland area and through level wooded terrain to Don Burnside Park in Three Lakes. The northern segment of the trail in the City of Eagle River will be completed as Phase Two of the trail project. (Click on the trail map for a printable map PDF 139KB.)
